Abstract

Social skills are an essential aspect of student development, encompassing the ability to communicate, collaborate, and build positive interpersonal relationships. By implementing collaborative learning methods, this study aims to examine the extent to which this strategy can enhance students' social interactions in the school environment. The objectives of this study are to determine the effectiveness of collaborative learning in strengthening the social skills of eighth-grade female students at SMPIT Al-Ridwan Telukjambe Timur Karawang, to identify supporting factors in enhancing students' social skills through collaborative learning at SMPIT Al-Ridwan Telukjambe Timur Karawang, and to analyze the impact of social skills development through collaborative learning among eighth-grade female students at SMPIT Al-Ridwan Telukjambe Timur Karawang. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research was conducted at SMPIT Al-Ridwan Telukjambe Timur Karawang. For data collection, the researcher used observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis, including data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The findings of this study reveal that collaborative learning significantly contributes to improving students' social skills, particularly in communication, teamwork, and empathy. Students became more active in interactions, worked better in teams, and demonstrated mutual respect toward one another. The primary supporting factors for the success of this method are the teacher’s role as a facilitator and a conducive classroom environment, while the challenges include differences in student characteristics and a lack of experience in working collaboratively. Overall, this study confirms that collaborative learning can be an effective strategy for strengthening students' social skills in the school environment.
