Abstract

Climate change is a multidimensional crisis that demands collective responses from all sectors, including religious institutions. This study examines how religious leaders understand, respond to, and articulate actions regarding climate change through theological interpretations and social practices. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, community observations, and analysis of religious texts and institutional documents. The findings reveal that religious leaders play a significant role in shaping ecological awareness through theological framing, environmental advocacy, and worship-based programs. However, their efforts are often constrained by limited resources, institutional capacity, and fragmented collaboration. This study concludes that strengthening the capacity of religious leaders and fostering cross-sectoral partnerships are essential for enhancing the contribution of religious communities to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
